Donald Campfield

Donald Campfield (born 1956) is an award-winning composer of popular songs and art music, an arranger, and a church musician. He holds B.Mus.Ed. and M.M. degrees from Ithaca College's School of Music and the D.M.A. in composition from Cornell University, where his teachers included Pulitzer Prize winning composer Karel Husa, composers Steven Stucky and Robert Palmer, and noted musicologist William Austin. As a brass major at Ithaca College he studied euphonium with James Linn and David Unland, and he performed and recorded for three years with the Ithaca College Concert Band under the direction of Edward Gobrecht.

Donald's numerous vocal and keyboard arrangements are published by Fred Bock Publications, H.T. FitzSimons and G. Schirmer, Inc. In 1999 he was named a winner of the Great American Song Contest for his popular song "Transylvania Two-Step." His recent art music compositions include Elegy for a Dead Poet (1995) for 8-part Men's Chorus and Chimes, Toccata, Chorale and Hyperfugue (1997) for orchestra, A Scottish Lullaby for voice with keyboard accompaniment, and Crossing the Bar (2001) for SATB unaccompanied.

In addition to his writing activities Donald has taught music theory at Ithaca College (Ithaca, NY), music theory, church music ministry and piano at Bethel College (Mishawaka, IN), and has served as choir director and organist at various churches in the northeastern United States for over twenty years. His avocations include Biblical apologetics, reading , home cooking, movies, numismatics and astronomy.
