But I spent most of the years after getting my degree in English working as a
train hostess and an airline stewardess, later being a somewhat dutiful wife,
and very soon the mother of three sons. That night in California I read my writing submission in class; a Christmas
script for a play where I was a new teacher. A lovely young lady approached me
after class. She was Fred Bock's wife. Fred was president and owner of Fred Bock
Music Company in the San Fernando Valley. Lois asked if she might take the
script home for Fred to read. Well, the script on hand was worn and messy from
being used by me as the director, and it was amateurishly scrawled, but I
agreed. How pleased (and somewhat dumbfounded) I was when wonderfully talented
Fred Bock wanted to write the music to my script. I had used public domain
Christmas songs with my words. That was the beginning of my career as a writer. Fred and I wrote eleven
musicals together. I was honored to have such a talented man writing the music
for my songs, and he was great at writing clever lyrics, too. These plays were
performed in various denominations all over America. We found a few had been
performed in Europe (Paris and Zurich). I love going to churches of many
denominations to hear and see our musicals performed. Meanwhile I had five books published. Zondervan Publishers printed The
Gift of the Dove (a cross-over); in 1994 they again published my works, a
series of adventure books, Tales from the Bayou: Old Jake and the Pirate's Treasure For any of you movie or TV producers out there, I have at least ten scripts
for both children and adults. Okay, so I haven't sold one yet, but ya gotta
believe me, I get options with pay, I get contracts, I get bona fide interest,
and I have a few out there working on being produced. Yeah, I know. But, I
can't, I won't, talk about successes until I get the check. A few are being
considered. If you don't believe me, call my agent: Quillco To purchase a piece click on the title.

How could I have known that course in creative writing at the university
night school in the San Fernando Valley was going to change my life? Back in the
1940's I had been thrilled to be accepted in writing classes under the
well-known Hudson Strode. He was teaching classes there in the 1940's. To be
accepted in his class was an honor.
