His undergraduate degree in music was earned at Southwestern College, Winfield, Kansas. Following that he was a scholarship pupil at Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and received his Doctor of Sacred Music from Southwestern in 1964. A member of ASCAP, he has received 18 consecutive annual awards for his contributions to serious literature. His published works now total over 800. Born October 15, 1919, in McPherson, Kansas, Gordon Young is recognized as
one of this country's most brilliant organists. He is also a prolific and
talented composer of both organ and choral works. A number of his church anthems
have become standard repertoire fare, and his name is known and respected
wherever fine church music is admired.
