John Jensen was born in Upland, California and still lives in the nearby
foothills with his wife, Gayle, of 26 years and their sixteen year old daughter,
Shelby. John's sport of choice is surfing which he gets in about three times a
week. Much of John’s inspiration comes from his time in the water.
John started taking private piano lessons when he was 10 years old. He then
branched out to guitar when he was 12. He started writing songs a year later and
formed his own band playing his own material and covering the hits of the day.
Through out high school and college John played all around the Southern
California area, developing his own unique sound. He continued his study
throughout the years, including advanced music theory with Jai Josephs,
songwriting with multi-platinum singer/songwriter Harriet Schock, and voice with
Curb Record's Robert Parlee. Ultimately, Robert became John’s writing partner.
In 1996 John met legendary producer Nik Venet, who personally mentored John in
the art of songwriting. Their work together shaped both their lives and
culminated in John being signed by Evening Star Records. John was privileged to
be called to his dear friend’s deathbed at UCLA Medical Center, where Nik asked
John to share his faith in Christ, which he did.
John has co-written with many LA songwriters including Sunny Hilden, Sunny
Hillary, Harriet Schock, Jeff Casey, and Jannel Rap, and he has received
numerous song writing awards around the country. John's songs have been recorded
on several independent labels and he has completed three albums of his own. He
is a professional member of ASCAP.
John believes that his varied songwriting experience adds a fresh sound to
contemporary worship music. John has been a member on the New Venture worship
team in Vista, California for four years. He has lead worship at New Hope Church
in Rancho Cucamonga and is currently one of the contemporary praise worship
leaders at Life Bible Fellowship Church in Upland, California. In each of these
churches, he has been able to introduce new material that speaks directly to the
needs of that congregation and allows them to experience God in a new and
revealing way.
