Houston Children's Chorus

The Houston Children's Chorus was founded in 1989 by Stephen Roddy. The Chorus involves over 275 children in grades 3 through 8, by annual audition. Weekly rehearsals are held in 5 locations around greater Houston.

The Houston Children's Chorus has performed concerts in New Zealand, Hong Kong, Carnegie Hall, Russia, England, Scotland, and Italy. They have performed for former President and Mrs. George Bush on eleven occasions, including the the 1990 World Economic Summit, the 1992 Republican Convention, the 150th anniversary celebration of the Smithsonian Institute, and numerous ribbon-cutting ceremonies. The Chorus is frequently featured with the Houston Masterworks Chorus in performances of major classical works, and soloists from the Chorus have performed with the Houston Symphony, Houston Grand Opera, Theater Under The Stars, and Alley Theater. The Chorus was featured in eight performances of the Broadway touring production of "Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" at Jones Hall. In 1999, the Chorus performed for the opening ceremonies of the World Energy Congress and performed with Celine Dion at Compaq Center. In the summer of 1999 the Chorus performed for Mass at the Vatican in Rome and St. Mark's Basilica in Venice.

STEPHEN RODDY is the Founder and Director of the Houston Children's Chorus, and he is Director of Music Ministries at Grace Presbyterian Church. He is a graduate of Auburn University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Mr. Roddy is an accomplished pianist, organist, children's choir specialist and festival conductor. He is in demand as a recording specialist for children, and has produced and directed numerous recordings for Silver-Burdett Ginn Music Textbooks, Warner Bros. Music, Fred Bock Music Company, Lifeway Christian resources, Blue Bell Ice Cream, United Way, Gerber Baby foods, and Hal Leonard Corporation.

J. Paul Williams is the creative genius behind the Houston Children's Chorus Choral Series. He supplies almost all of the lyrics, as well as coordinates with the composers on all of the selections available in the series. He has had over 500 songs published by over 25 different publishers. He regularly participates in workshops for adult, youth and children's choirs, but he says that the children's choirs are by far his favorite.
