Declare, My Soul, The Greatness Of God

A personal note from the composer/arranger…

This piece of music was commissioned for a very specific event, as noted by the information above the title on the octavo. The Lloyd John Ogilvie Institute of Preaching was established under the umbrella of the Brehm Center for Worship, Theology, and the Arts at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA. Dr. Ogilvie, who most recently has been the Chaplain of the United States Senate, approved of the concept that included a choral anthem, prayers of adoration to God, and the congregational singing of the hymn, Praise to the Lord, the Almighty. The piece was performed for the inaugural event by the Cathedral Choir of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, which I was privileged to conduct. When Dr. Ogilvie was the Senior Pastor at the church before his Senate position, the Cathedral Choir had been conducted by Fred Bock, for whom there is also a Brehm Center Institute, named in his memory. Fred and Lloyd had been a wonderful team at the church during their ministry there. The Ogilvie Preaching inaugural event was a great evening that linked the lives of ministry that Fred and Lloyd had together, and they continued to be connected in the respective institutes name for them under the Brehm Center umbrella. You can imagine the privilege that I felt to represent the Fred Bock Institute of Music and be involved in that evening with this piece of music. I am blessed!
