A Still, Silent Night

Giving spiritual content/context of the piece to the choir…

Christmas time is full of many emotions and expressions – all the way from the burst of the angel’s chorus to the quiet scene of Mary, Joseph and a few barn animals. There is a message to be received in the full gamut of those expressions. This particular arrangement is meant to encourage our quiet reflection on the message of Christmas. In the chaotic nature of our world – much like the expression in the initial verses of Psalm 46 – we have the admonition in verses 10 to "Be still and know that I am God." We are not always very adept at observing stillness in the middle of unrest – maybe even accentuated at Christmas time! The awesome scene of the Savior of the world lying in a manger should give us that moment to "Be still" that we all need in our lives.
