Lovely rhythms and contrasting strands of meter (3/8, 6/8 and 3/4) are woven into a tight braid in this traditional Mexican folksong. The piano accompaniment provides and sustains the underlying fluidity of the piece. The text uses the description of sugar cane as ”green and wild” as a metaphor for the young man who wants his woman so much that he loses a day of work to come and visit her. ”How sweet it is to want love when the love is not finished.” Easy to medium difficulty, perfect for high school and above.
