ADAGIO & ALLEGRO FOR 5 VIOLINS by Joseph Bodin de Boismortier (1689-1755) is edited by Joel Blahník. Boismortier was an innovator and the first French composer to use the word “Concerto” in his titles. He was an advocate for ensembles of like instruments (players are free of “unnecessary noise” from different instruments). His music is characterized by its tunefulness, simplicity and elegance. Players will discover its moderate virtuosity has originality of harmony, texture and rhythm. “Adagio and Allegro” are taken from his Opus 15 composed in 1727. These two movements are favorites.
